The first installation of the first Regional Council of Fvg dates back to May 26, 1964, which took place in the hall of the City Council of Trieste. The president was Teodoro de Rinaldini. The first president of the newly formed autonomous Region of Fvg was Berzanti, who held this position from June 24, 1964 to July 6, 1973; from July 7, Berzanti became the third president of the Cr Fvg and Antonio Comelli the second president of the Region: their task was to lead Friuli out of the tragedy of the '76 earthquake. For eight years the Regional Legislative Assembly met in the City Hall of Trieste, while offices and services were located in the Palazzo Modello in Piazza dell'Unità d'Italia.
As for the current headquarters of the Cr Fvg, in Piazza Oberdan 6, in Trieste, it is a building built shortly before the Second World War based on a project by the Trieste architect Umberto Nordio that involved the entire area that connects Piazza Oberdan to the square in front of the Court. The project, however, was set aside until the 1950s, when Rai decided to build its regional headquarters there.
In order to meet the needs of representation but also of road accessibility, the Region ended up choosing the building it still occupies today as the council headquarters, once it was vacated by the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (IAEA). The restoration work was entrusted to Nordio, who was thus able to take up his original project again. He was joined by two Venetian architects, Giorgio Bellavitis and Nani Valle. The official inauguration of the headquarters took place on 5 October 1972, in the presence of the then President of the Republic, Giovanni Leone.
